Program Description:
This fundamental program is an overview of residential universal design and green building practices. It will include aspects relative to the design and construction of a universal design home that includes green building practices and products. Home features and building concepts will focus on enhancing living environments while providing for independence, accessibility, safety, comfort and convenience.

From the basics to insider practical tips, participants will learn what it takes to develop a timeless and high performance, energy efficient home. Industry trends and resources will be included within this program.

Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D. will share her personal experiences from the perspective of a person who uses a wheelchair. She will share her knowledge of space planning and accessibility, which she used when she designed her new home, the Universal Design Living Laboratory — a national demonstration home. www.UDLL.com

Goal: The goal of this program is to assist building industry professionals and consumers as they integrate universal design and green building features in homes.

Targeted Audiences: This session is custom designed for consumers, builders, remodelers, architects, home designers, and interior designers.

Duration of Program: 45-90 minutes as a keynote. A training program can be extended from a half day to two days.

Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of this program, the audience members will be able to:

• Incorporate universal design and green building features into residential housing.
• Recognize universal design features in the kitchen, bath and entrance that provide for accessibility, independence, safety and comfort.
• Recognize problems in existing homes that limits accessibility and provide solutions to improve accessibility.
• Identify adaptive hardware and mechanized products to provide for accessibility in the home.
• Bring up the subject and conduct conversations about utilizing universal design and green building to future clients who are building or remodeling their homes.
• List the benefits of universal design and green building features.
• Identify fundamental components of a universal design and green home.

Multimedia: The presentation is enhanced with an interactive handout and high quality graphics and slides which serve to illustrate the main points. Audiences are better able to retain the core messages by having visual illustrations.
